Career Change dogs are usually between 12 to 18 months old and have received professional training, but are dismissed from our service dog program for a variety of reasons. These range from a behavior that is not suitable for a service dog, to a health issue. When we transition these dogs, we give full disclosure as to why the dog was career changed.

We place these dogs with applicants, not on a first-come-first-served basis, but rather on the best fit for the dog and the applicant.

All dogs are current on vaccines, flee & heartworm treatment.  Arrangements will be made if they are not yet old enough to be spayed or neutered, and the applicant is given a two-week trial period where they can take the dog home to determine if the dog is a good fit for them. 

The cost for a Career Change Dog is $3500 (subject to change.) There is a $55 non-refundable application fee that needs to be submitted at the end of this form.

Are you willing to adopt a dog with the following conditions? Please note that a lot of these conditions will not severely hinder a dog's quality of life, but due to our strict level of health requirements, they cannot be placed as service dogs.





Your Commitment

JLAD requires adopters to provide the necessities which include food, water, bowls, shelter, bed, toys, collar, leash, treats, veterinary care, etc.

JLAD prefers our dogs are left alone no longer than 5 consecutive hours.

Caring for a career change dog requires a commitment for the life of the dog.

If accepted,  I am able to pay the $3000 fee and am financially able to provide for my career change dog and his/her ongoing needs.

Please note, the current adoption fee of is subject to change, and will then vary depending on the reason for dismissal and the level of training achieved. Our dogs are professionally trained and provided medical care throughout their time in training with us. The adoption fee only covers a small portion of what it costs our organization. Payment will be due at the time of adoption, we cannot arrange for payment plans.
