GUIDING NOTES
  • Application form: this application comprises seven sections from A to H spread over 5 different pages.
    • Page 1: informational guidance and criteria for your benefit, and verifying your eligibility
    • Page 2 (questions 4 through 12): collects general data about your team
    • Page 3 (questions 13 through 33): represent the bulk of your application and invites you to articulate why you should be selected
    • Page 4: is where we collect some thematic categorization information about your innovation
    • Page 5: is where you will have the option to upload additional documents and enter any submitter data if different from pervious information.
  • Saving your work: We suggest that you give yourself ample time to complete the application. We strongly encourage you to create a login using the link in the very top right corner of this form, and save your draft regularly as you fill the form using the same login information, so that no data will be lost. Note that this form does not save automatically and you risk loosing your data if you click refresh before saving.
  • Applicant and Lead Representative: Each application will be asked to specify the Applicant ("Applicant"). The Applicant is the legal entity, person, group of persons, or organization applying for the Prize. Each application will also be asked to specify a Lead Representative ("Lead Representative"). That individual should be the person primarily responsible for, and representing, the Applicant and proposed innovation in the context of this competition.
  • Deadline: Applications are encouraged as soon as possible. The application must be submitted by clicking at the bottom of this form no later than 
        September 15th, 23:59 PDT 2021. 
  • Attachments: Note that additional optional attachments can be provided at the bottom of the form.
  • Confidential information: We strongly advise you not to disclose, share or otherwise publish any confidential, proprietary, or competitive information. Should you decide to share such information, it should be limited to the document uploads section and be clearly described as confidential in the document description, the file name, and on the file itself. We will make reasonable efforts to keep the information confidential among reviewers and judges, but we assume no responsibility for the protection thereof.
  • Language: Applications will be submitted and judged in English. However, if the applicant is not a native English speaker, she/he may choose to prepare the answers in his/her language and then translate the answers (whether with Google Translate or another resource) before completing the form in English. There is an option to signal that the application was submitted by a team who does not have any native English speakers. The applicant can choose to upload the application in the original native language as an extra attachment, if desired.

SELECTION CRITERIA
All proposed innovations must demonstrate a direct contribution to climate change mitigation or they will not be considered.

As a final consideration before finalizing the semi-finalist cohort and the set of winners, the BCI and its judges will assess and make necessary adjustments to ensure sector balance and diversity, equity and inclusion. Detailed selection criteria are listed below:

Impact potential and mission alignment: The innovation has high potential to mitigate climate change within three years, and ideally sooner, and is in line with the mission of the Blue Climate Initiative (BCI) to accelerate solutions for people, ocean and planet

Innovation: The project is innovative -- whether through a new technology, model or approach

Profitability and scalability: The innovation is a financially viable product/service and the application articulates commercial pathways for increased impact over time through scale and/or replication, including in low-tech contexts as applicable

Capacity and Feasibility: The core team is skilled and capable, and the innovation is feasible from a technical, legal and organizational perspective

Alignment with OIP Principles: The project aligns with all OIP Principles. In particular, it is designed, led, and implemented by a diverse team, with meaningful participation from those who experience the problem and those who would “use” the proposed innovation
