Once again, we are in a transition year as students, staff, and families adjust to in-person learning again. Please see our updated security measures to ensure you are able to meet them:

  • Therefore, all in-person BSV volunteers will sign a waiver assuming the risk of volunteering in-person
  • Volunteers will only be allowed to be in one classroom
  • BUSD students cannot volunteer with BSV this year due to contact tracing purposes

COVID-19 Security Measures
COVID-19 Security Measures / Medidas de seguridad COVID-19

In efforts to keep our communities and yourself safe, BSV has updated safety measures in response to COVID-19. Please see below to ensure you are able to meet them.

All BSV in-person volunteers will:

  • provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination with indication of a 2-week clearance before starting in the classroom
  • sign a waiver assuming the risk of volunteering in-person
  • will wear masks at all sites at all times whether indoors or outdoors when they are on a volunteer assignment

Thank you as always for your flexibility and dedication to supporting students, families, and staff! / ¡Gracias como siempre por su flexibilidad y dedicación para apoyar a los estudiantes, las familias y el personal!

Parent Volunteers
In support of BUSD's COVID-19 safety plan, Berkeley Schools Volunteers will be screening and placing all volunteers this year, including parents!  To get you in your child's classroom* in an expedited manner, BSV has made a couple of exceptions. Parent volunteers:
  1. Do not need to be fingerprinted
  2. Can start volunteering before attending orientation

Considerations:
  • per BUSD protocol on contact tracing and reducing risk of transmission, parents can only volunteer in one classroom (even if you have multiple children!)
  • Prior to starting, your child's classroom teacher must also complete a request form

BSV Volunteering Preferences
We will do our best to match you to the right classroom or teacher, but as this last year has shown us, we must remain adaptable. We appreciate your understanding & flexibility!

Volunteering SCHEDULE:  Most instruction in BUSD occurs between the hours of 8am-3:30 pm. While they exist, late afternoons options are extremely limited.

I accept the appointment of School Volunteer in a BUSD school for the 2021-22 school year.

Sign up for Orientation & Training

Prior to being matched to your teacher, new volunteers complete a 1-hour orientation.

Additionally, BSV is a learning community and will therefore continue to offer additional trainings throughout the year. We encourage you to attend as many as you can!

All trainings this Fall will take place via Zoom.

Thank you for noting your chosen training date/times in your calendar.

We will confirm your participation the week prior to your trainings. We look forward to seeing you on Zoom in the near future!
Next Steps
Thank you for stepping up to support our students!

Here's what happens next:
  • Once you've completed the mandatory orientation, we'll start your matching process.
  • When we know for sure you have a match, we'll do an email introduction to the Host Teacher.
  • Then we'll send you to be fingerprinted.
  • While we wait for your results to come in, you and your Host Teacher will hold your First Meeting.
  • Once you're officially cleared, we'll notify you both and then you're free to join class!
