Eligibility Form

This eligibility form clearly sets out the criteria for this round of funding and will allow you to determine whether your organisation is eligible to apply. You must confirm that you meet all required criteria in order to progress to the application form.

Our Strategic Aims

In order to be considered, your application must address at least one of the following specific objectives which have been set for the 2024 round of funding to support our overarching strategic aims:

Education, Training and Research

-STEM: Inspiring young people to pursue qualifications and a career in STEM in order to contribute to energy sustainability

-Raising aspirations: Addressing society’s educational needs by inspiring and challenging the next generation through innovation

Biodiversity and Climate Change

-Environmental protection or improvement: Protecting and enhancing the environment

-Habitat conservation: Contributing to the protection and conservation of habitats and enhancing biodiversity

-Knowledge and research: Developing new solutions to the challenge of climate change

Art and Culture

-Restoration, development & conservation: Protecting and safeguarding artistic and cultural heritage

-Cultural initiatives: Celebrating diversity and cultural identity through the arts

Social Initiatives

-Economic security: Alleviating poverty, including in-work poverty, caused by the cost-of-living crisis

-Economic opportunity: Supporting entrepreneurship and skills development for the most vulnerable groups.

The Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) recognise that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests. Your application must contribute towards at least one of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Due Diligence

We will not accept an application from you if your organisation, any key partner organisation or related director/trustee/manager has ever been:

- Sanctioned or sentenced for fraud, bribery, corruption, tax evasion, human rights or other illegal activity

- Disqualified from public office or as a Company Director

- Disqualified from contracting with the public sector in the last 5 years

- … or is currently under investigation for any of the above

Your Organisation

All of the following statements must apply to your organisation:

- You have an active board of at least three unrelated trustees

- You have been registered with one of the UK Charity Regulators for at least one full year. We do not accept applications from exempt charities.

- You have at least one year of published accounts covering a 12-month operating period that show as received on the relevant charity regulator website

- Your income in the last set of published accounts was greater than £75,000 but does not exceed £10,000,000.

- The bank account into which the funding is to be made is not based in a restricted country (i.e. tax haven, high corruption risk or sanctioned country)

Your Project

We provide funding that is restricted to the delivery of specific projects, and not for general unrestricted running costs. There are certain types of activity that we are unable to fund. Your application must not request funding for any of the following:

- Unrestricted costs

- Funding that will be passed on to individuals or other organisations

- Short term interventions including conferences, galas, holidays and expeditions

- Sponsorship or funding towards an appeal

- Projects that take place outside the United Kingdom

- Medical care or medical research

- The promotion of religious or political beliefs

- Projects which are primarily based around animals, unless the main purpose of the project is aligned to one of our strategic aims

- Projects which are primarily based around sports activities, unless the main purpose of the project is aligned to one of our strategic aims

- Projects that include building work/land development in the categories of Education, Training and Research and Social Initiatives

I confirm that our application is not requesting funding for any of the above activities.

Funding

The following statements must apply to your application:

- Your application must be for at least £35,000 and must not exceed £150,000

- Your project must start between 1st March 2024 and 31st December 2024 and be completed within 12 months. We will only approve funding for a one-year period

Repeat Funding

Whilst there is no limit to the number of times an organisation can apply to us for funding, we will not provide funding to the same project for any more than three consecutive years. Applications for funding for a previously supported project beyond one year must demonstrate additionality, and the evolution of the project must be evidenced within your application.

Salary Costs

You can apply for funding for salary costs, however, as above, please note that funding is awarded for a maximum of one year at a time and there is no guarantee of funding in subsequent years. Please refer to the ‘repeat funding’ section.

Living Wage

We encourage our applicants to pay their staff the UK Living Wage, and require that any post directly funded from our grant is paid at no less than the current UK Living Wage rate.

Full Cost Recovery

If you are applying for funding for salary costs, your application should factor in the associated indirect overheads as well as direct costs associated with the delivery of services.

Safeguarding

If your organisation/project works with children and/or vulnerable adults, you must have a written policy on Safeguarding that has been reviewed by your Board of Trustees within the last two years. When submitting your application, you must upload the following evidence:

- Your written policy on Safeguarding (please note that we are examining your policy in our capacity as a funder only and not in any advisory capacity. Our review of your policy should not be relied on as an endorsement of it)

- A letter from your CEO or the Chair of your Board of Trustees confirming that your Safeguarding policy has been reviewed by your Board of Trustees within the last two years

Building Work/Land Development

Applications for funding for building work/land development are not eligible in the categories of Education, Training and Research or Social Initiatives.

If your project includes building work or land development that requires planning permission, you must have all necessary consents in place at the time of applying. You must upload evidence of this when submitting your application.
