YOUTH SPECTRUM ARTS APPLICATION

Each academic year, the New Museum proudly hosts Youth Spectrum Arts (YSA), a stipend-supported, after-school program for young people ages fifteen to nineteen. Building on the New Museum’s history of critically engaging youth, YSA enables young people to interact with contemporary art and culture with a focus on gender, sexuality, and queer and trans community. Through workshops, artmaking, and discussions, participants will connect with themselves, each other, and guest artists. YSA continues the Museum’s history of working with diverse artists, whose art and activism have transformed culture within and beyond museum walls. Youth will be introduced to art that builds community, instigates change and new ways of thinking, provides space and methods for healing, raises challenging questions, and expresses diverse, complex experiences and points of view.

2021 PROGRAM DETAILS

Participants will meet every Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. EDT from October 26, 2021 to June 4, 2022, excluding school recesses.

Applicants should be prepared and able to participate in sessions both online via Zoom and onsite at the Museum. Whether sessions are held onsite or online may shift as we monitor public health and physical distancing policies.

This program is free. YSA participants receive a stipend of $750 to ensure broad access to the program.

Participants will be required to present proof in one of the following ways before they are formally accepted into the program: New York City COVID Safe App, New York State Excelsior Pass, CDC Vaccination Card (or photo), NYC Vaccination Record, or an official immunization record from outside NYC or the U.S..
