Hiring is heavily regulated by the IRS, and Social Good Fund employs a strict lens in our assessment of worker classification (whether someone can legally be classified as an Independent Contractor or an employee). Please read the detailed information in the Project Handbook, starting on page 37, before completing this form.


Please use this form if you would like to hire an Independent Contractor (IC) to work with your project. 

To complete this form, you will need:

  • The Scope of Work, compensation, and other details

  • The vendor’s W9 (or at least knowledge of their business structure)

  • The vendor’s proof of business registration

This form will:

  1. Walk you through the process of determining whether or not the person (or company) you want to hire qualifies as an IC. Please note the final determination is the responsibility of Social Good Fund, as the hiring entity.
  2. Allow you to enter in all the key information we need to create a contract for your contractor. Please provide accurate/final information so that we’ll have it when we go to create and send out the contract. You will not need to fill out a contract template in addition, just the form!

After you submit the form, our team will review your responses and email you if we have any questions or need other information. Once we have determined that we can safely hire this worker as an IC and all the information looks good and correct, we will generate a contract and send it out to you and the contractor for signature. We will reach out by email within 3 business days if we have questions, and you can expect the process to take about a week from form submission to a fully signed contract, depending on how long it takes you and/or the IC to respond to questions, etc..

Worker Class Determination


In addition to having a formal business registration, we must satisfy the federal and state requirements.

Please answer the following questions to confirm that person you want to hire can be hired as an IC. This will also help SGF collect the info if we may need later if we need to back up our decision to classify them as an IC. These questions are also known as the "ABC Test" which is used by California and several other states. If the state where your contractor will be working follows this test, you must be able to answer "yes" and provide an explanation for all three of the following questions.
