NC IDEA Summer 2022 Internship for Underrepresented Entrepreneurially-Minded Students

NC IDEA is seeking talented undergraduate students with a real interest in startups and entrepreneurship, regardless of major, as demonstrated by having taken an entrepreneurship class, started a business, worked at a startup, or some other relevant experience. Candidates must identify as a female, person of color, or reside in a hometown in a Tier 1 or Tier 2 economically distressed county of North Carolina.  Representing more than one of these criteria is a plus.

This program is ideal for students with 1) a desire, following graduation, to become involved in a startup company or organization supporting startups in North Carolina or 2) skills or interest in one of the many areas that could be useful to NC IDEA or one of our startups.

  • Researching, updating and analyzing data about the North Carolina entrepreneurial ecosystem and startups around the state
  • Improving and updating our website and social media content, including case studies on the companies that receive our grants
  • Assisting in the execution of our programs and seminars
Projects that support our grantee companies:
  • Market research or competitive analysis
  • Web or social media content
  • Other research activities

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the scoping projects submitted by NC IDEA companies and staff
  • Preparing project proposals
  • Managing calendar and project work with oversight from graduate fellows, including meeting deadlines and preparing deliverables
  • Attending NC IDEA MICRO and LABS programming

Commitment

The position is 40 hours per week and requires a commitment of 10 weeks during June-August. Exact dates are flexible to meet the student’s schedule.  The salary is $15/hour.  If applicable, interns may also receive class credit for this work and are responsible for making those arrangements with their instructor(s).

Additional Benefits
Interns are considered valuable members of the NC IDEA team and will participate in the weekly staff meetings. Depending on their schedules, interns are also invited to take part in any NC IDEA meetings and events that are of interest, including NC IDEA grant recipient update meetings, ECOSYSTEM partner gatherings, and speaker series presentations. They will also receive the advice and mentorship of the staff and will be afforded opportunities to network with entrepreneurs, investors, and advisors from around the state.
