Student Energy Fellowship 2022 Application

To meet the world's emissions reduction targets, address the climate crisis, and implement low carbon technologies, we need a capable and diverse workforce motivated to accelerate the energy transition. SE Fellows will guide you through an experiential learning program designed to provide you with leadership and project skills training, energy knowledge, connections to global leaders, young professionals, global influencers in energy, connect you to a global cohort of fellows committed to working with communities, government and business, and help prepare you to tackle our world’s biggest challenges to accelerate climate action.

The 10-month virtual program consists of peer learning, project and leadership skills development, mentoring sessions on how to break into energy careers, and networking with fellows from around the world. All this is paired with a chance to implement your learnings and make an impact through a project. With a team or individually, you will brainstorm, design, and implement a project that combines your passion with the knowledge and skills you gain through the specialized SE Fellows coursework. Your project is an opportunity to pursue your interests, develop crucial professional skills, learn from a network of like-minded young people while being supported by experienced Student Energy coaches and a broad network of mentors.

The deadline to apply is October 25th, 2021, 11:59 PST

Before You Apply
When you apply to the Fellows program you can apply as an individual or as a team. Teams are composed of 2-5 people, aged 18-30, that intend to work on the project and complete all the requirements of the fellowship. We require an application form from every individual team member. If you don’t have an idea for a project, we require you to have a concrete project area of interest and be able to detail that area of interest in this application. Once accepted we have tools available that will help you develop a project based on the idea you and your team want to pursue.

Team Project Requirements:

Your project is meant to be a project or event your team works on throughout the SE Fellows program. The idea is to have a project that applies your new skills and learnings into a tangible experience for you and your team.

Examples Of Projects:

  • Run a solar energy awareness campaign in your community
  • Conduct a feasibility study on the implementation of electric scooters on your campus
  • Write a policy recommendation on energy for your local government
  • Design an energy literacy education program for youth and implement it in a local school, community centre, or organization
  • Plan and host an energy webinar series for a regional audience
  • Host an energy networking night bringing together industry professionals, youth, and stakeholders

Timeline For Your Team Project:

Your team project can take place anytime between March 2022 and October 2022. This way we will be able to provide you with enough coaching support during the planning process. Your project may take place throughout the whole program or can be a one-day event. However, your project does not need to be completed by the end of the SE Fellows Program, it may continue beyond October 2022. Your success in the course is not dependent on the completion of a project prior to October 2022.

Scale of Project:

The minimum threshold for the scale of the project is 80 hours of work between your team over the course of the fellowship. We welcome projects of a larger scale, however, they will need to be discussed prior to commencing. If you have a project already deployed and in a maintenance/growth phase please answer the question that describes this in full detail.

Team Requirements:

Teams can be groups of 2 - 5 people. We want to make sure that everyone in the group has a chance to contribute to the team project. 5 is the maximum number of team members able to participate in the fellowship while working on the project

You may apply to the SE Fellowship as an individual.

** Each team member must fill out their own applications
