(NOTE: only students in Year ONE of their Dietetics degree in 2021 are eligible to apply)


ADSA BURSARY CHECKLIST 

  •  Completed application form from section 1 – 7.
  •  Motivation letter 
  •  Certified copy of applicant ID.
  •  Certified copies of applicant’s latest academic results*  - *If end of year results are not available please send the most up-to-date results (June examinations/ year marks) 
  •  Certified proof of family income e.g. payslips, pension receipts, affidavit if parents unemployed.
  •  If applicable, certified copy of death certificate of parent/s.
  •  Proof of ADSA student membership.
  •  Any other supporting documents e.g. reference letters, proof of employment etc.

Please carefully read the criteria below

  1. Complete the online application form by Wednesday 1 December 2021. Every item in this application must be completed with supporting documents attached.
  2. The ADSA Bursary is a rand value of R25 000 per year for the second, third, and fourth year of study.  The finds will be paid directly by ADSA to the student’s university account after providing proof of registration.
  3. The recipient of the ADSA Bursary will be decided by the ADSA Executive Committee at the time of selection. The recipient will be contacted personally by the ADSA President, and remaining applicants contacted via email in February 2022.
  4. ADSA reserves the right to withdraw bursaries awarded to students who accept full bursaries from other funding sources.
  5. The following dietetics students are eligible to apply for the ADSA Bursary:
  • Students who are in or have completed the first year of dietetics (and must not be in second year of study yet). MSc and PhD students are not eligible for this bursary. 
  • The aim of the bursary is to provide for a disadvantaged individual who may not have otherwise had an opportunity to study dietetics. Proof of financial neediness will be requested.
  • Applicants will be requested to submit a motivation letter as part of the application, as well as demonstrated leadership skills demonstrated at school and university level.
  • The applicant must be an ADSA student member and proof of membership will be requested.
  • The application must be a South African Citizen and will be required to work in South Africa for at least the same time duration as covered by the ADSA bursary, excluding community service year i.e. three years.
  • The applicant must be an active member of ADSA at their local branch for at least the same time duration as covered by the ADSA bursary i.e. three years.

5. MOTIVATION LETTER

Please submit a motivation letter (no more than 300 words) indicating why you believe you should be awarded the ADSA Bursary.  Some ideas to address in your motivation letter include: 
  • Why are you studying to become a dietitian? What goals have you set for yourself for the next five years? 
  • What does being healthy mean to you? How has nutrition impacted your life?
  • What extra-mural / community service activities are you currently involved in?
