Learning Outcome: Participants will be able to identify currents standards of Oncology nursing practice and apply them to selected patient conditions.
Objectives:
  • Describe the techniques needed to prepare for the Oncology Nursing Certification Examination.
  • Discuss the concepts of health promotion, epidemiology, prevention, current screening methodology in certain cancers and early detection of cancer.
  • Identify the scientific basis for oncology disease and practices.
  • Discuss current treatment modalities and their specific roles in cancer prevention and treatment.
  • Discuss the etiology of symptoms experienced by oncology patients and the nursing management.
  • Discuss the psychosocial dimension of nursing care of the oncology patient.
  • Identify selected oncologic emergencies, including care and treatment of each.
  • Discuss the concept of survivorship for those living with cancer.
  • Discuss key concepts related to palliative and end of life care.
  • Describe the role that oncology professional organizations can play in emphasizing professional expectations, standards and quality of nursing care for the oncology patient.
