Learning Outcome: Participants will be able to identify various classifications of stroke and the application of selected nursing management interventions.
Objectives:
- Identify the vascular and structural anatomy of the human brain.
- Discuss teaching methods for patients and their families regarding the risk factors and lifestyle modifications necessary to prevent initial or secondary stroke.
- Describe the emergency management of the stroke patient from the field to initial triage in ED.
- Identify the appropriate diagnostic tests for the stroke patient and the care prior and postātest.
- Identify the various kinds of strokes and apply the current stroke guidelines for acute care management.
- Discuss medications currently available and used in the medical management of stroke patients.
- Identify the indications to be used with stroke patients and side effects of selected medications.
- Discuss the different methods used or discouraged when rehabilitating the stroke patient.
- Differentiate between types of strokes centers and certifications and use of Core Measures to improve the quality and outcomes in patient care.
