DCTV Young Men of Color Application

Young men of color residing in NYC, ages 18-24, are welcome to apply for this 6 -12 month pre-professional training program aimed to develop more positive reflections of young men of color. Participants engage in candid conversations about the representation of young men of color in media, receive advanced training in media literacy and video production, and create films. What goals do you hope to achieve with this program? Why do you think it is important for men of color to be involved in filmmaking? We are looking for detailed, honest self-reflection.

As a filmmaker, you will have to get people to support you in your work to see your vision become a reality. This is done in a pitch, a written or verbal summary of the documentary or narrative film you would like to create. Pitch us your vision for a documentary/ short narrative film you would like to create. :

Identify up to three directors that inspire you to learn more and explain why.

Watch a film with a strong male of color lead(s) and write a character analysis based on the film. Consider the role of this character. Describe character growth and development throughout the film. What are the motivations and actions that drive the story?
