Learning Outcome: Nurses working with patients at the bedside and other healthcare settings will be able to identify best practice in medication administration and safe medication administration practice.
Objectives:
- Identify at least five new drugs commonly used in practice.
- Identify common adverse drug errors and how to prevent them.
- Recognize the most common drug interactions.
- Identify common drugs that are incompatible and the nurse’s role in medication administration.
- Discuss the types of drugs that may cause serious problems in patients if not identified.
- Discuss the principles of safe medication administration.
- Identify situations where drug interactions/errors are preventable.
- Discuss several methods to decrease dosage calculation/drug interaction.
- List three of the basic dosage calculation formulas for safe medication administration.
