  • Graduate level candidate and pursuing career in the social sciences/economics
  • Financial need of individual and family
  • Research topics that benefit Asians or Asian Americans in social/economic need
  • Strength of professional recommendations
  • Open to US citizens, US permanent residents and foreign nationals
Preference given to those whose journey parallels Dr. Hsiao’s who struggled to obtain his education in the midst of financial uncertainty as a young graduate student from China. He devoted his career to academia as a professor in the field of economics.  He also was committed to giving back to those in need, including lecturing in China upon his retirement to educate the post-Mao era of economists who are now leading the country.

Application Details

Applicants are responsible for submitting all materials to the Asian Pacific Fund by Monday, May 16, 2022. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated.  The application becomes complete and valid only when the Asian Pacific Fund has received all of the following materials:
  • Completed student application form, including the essay questions.
  • Most recent transcript(s) of grades (including grading scale); unofficial transcripts are OK
  • Resume (include work experience, school activities, community service, honors & awards)
  • Two letters of recommendation, at least one of which is from a current professor.  
Note: Three to five finalists will be chosen. If chosen, finalists must submit official transcript(s) of grades and FAFSA student aid report (or other documentation verifying financial information).
