NYC high school students are welcome to apply for this 7-month intensive media training program. Students learn the basics of documentary filmmaking, including camera operation, editing skills, interviewing and media literacy. Participating students create documentary, narrative or experimental short films. There are a limited number of slots for students the age of 13. All participants must commit to the full term of the program.

Think about one challenge facing you and/or your community in New York City. Pitch us your vision for a documentary film you can create based on this challenge. In your pitch be sure to include at least one person you will interview for the film and the questions you will ask them. Also consider what solutions you would offer to make a difference. As a filmmaker, you will be tasked with engaging your audience. As you bring them into the world you create, they become immersed into your characters' experiences. Tell a short story using only sensory detail (the five senses). (Minimum 300 words. This story can be based on real-life personal experiences or totally made up. Please be sure to check your word count before submission. Incomplete responses will not be considered.)
