Event details

As part of the application process, Cycling Scotland will look carefully at route proposals. To help plan your route, there are a number of free online mapping tools you could use, including ridewithgps, Strava, Opencyclemap and many others.

As per guidance notes, routes should be designed around a 5 year old on a single speed bike, with minimum elevation, avoiding steep hills or descents, and uneven surfaces including grass.

Event delivery responsibilities

The following table details activities required to deliver a Pedal for Scotland event and the role of both Cycling Scotland and the Event Applicant. 
Cycling Scotland delivers
Cycling Scotland can provide the following for your event:
  • Rider numbers

  • Rider medals

  • Support to promote events and communicate with participants including:
    • website landing page on www.cycling.scot
    • digital toolkit to support local promotion
    • online booking system and emails with participants (if required)
  • Event evaluation survey and monitoring

  • Directional arrows for route

  • Access to event branding including feather flags, banners and wider signage inventory (for collection from, and return to, Glasgow)

  • Event photographer

Cycling Scotland delivers
Cycling Scotland agrees to deliver the following items or activities as part of your event:
  • Event sponsorship

Event applicant delivers
Please confirm you will deliver the following mandatory items or activities
  • Risk Assessment (static and dynamic)

  • Liaison with Local Authority + relevant landowners

  • Local promotion

  • Overcome barriers to participation, through access to bikes
  • Responding to queries from participants

  • £10million Public Liability Insurance in place

  • Community Engagement

  • Volunteers/marshals recruited, checked and briefed

  • Packs for marshals/volunteers, (e.g. hi-viz vests, emergency contact details, snacks etc.) 
  • Organising identified Traffic Management requirements, including TTROs and signage

  • Emergency services advised of event date/location

  • First Aid for on the day

  • Venue Hire (inc. separate toilet hire if required)

  • Identified safeguarding lead

  • Event set up/breakdown

Event applicant delivers

Organisational contribution
