For National Canadian Film Day, REEL CANADA is pleased to provide streaming links to teachers that will be active for 7 days each, from Monday April 18 to Sunday April 24. 

You may share these links with your students for at-home viewing, but the links cannot be shared outside of your own virtual classroom or school. These links are for educational purposes only.

If you know another teacher who may be interested in participating in NCFD, please do NOT share the film link, but rather direct them to fill out their own request form at https://www.tfaforms.com/4972982.




En l’honneur de la Journée du cinéma canadien, REEL CANADA est heureux d’offrir aux enseignantes et enseignants des liens de diffusion qui seront actifs pendant sept jours, du lundi 18 avril au dimanche 24 avril. 

Vous pouvez partager ces liens avec vos élèves afin qu’elles et ils puissent visionner les films, mais il est interdit de partager ces liens en dehors de votre classe ou de votre école.  Ces liens sont fournis à des fins pédagogiques seulement.

Screening Sensitive Material

Indian Horse introduces the discussion of Canadian Residential Schools, which in part includes harms against children, sexual abuse of children, secrets, and shame.  While this is done gently and not in a graphic way, the material may be upsetting for some students.  We ask that you ensure the availability of whatever counselling services your school normally provides when this kind of sensitive material is being dealt with.  (Page 3 of the content advisory provides information about some public resources that may be helpful). 

Given this sensitive subject matter, Indian Horse is not suitable for students to view independently if they are learning from home. Because the content of the film could be triggering for some students, they need to be fully supported by counsellors and other caring adults before, during and after the screening.  

Since viewing the film may lead to disclosures by children or youth in your classroom or group, it may be prudent to familiarize yourself with the mandatory and legal steps within your province, organization or school regarding your duty to report.

We also ask that specific consideration be given to your Indigenous students – many of whom may be intergenerational survivors of the Residential School system – for whom this material may be particularly upsetting. It is important to ensure that their viewing experience is a safe one.  Again, this should involve whatever supports your school has in place for such instances, whether it be counsellors who specialize in Indigenous cultural sensitivities, or the option for Indigenous students to opt out of the screening, or other measures.
