The Community Cloth: A Microenterprise Program in Texas
Event Description
Join us on December 8th at 12 pm PST (1 pm CST) to learn about The Community Cloth, a microenterprise initiative that has been empowering refugee and immigrant women for over 15 years in Houston, Texas. Through the creation and sale of their handmade, indigenous arts and crafts such as woven scarves, participating artisans learn the potential of entrepreneurship to achieve self-sufficiency in their transition to life in the U.S. Hear from key organizers of the program who will discuss the strategies used to create and maintain this microenterprise program as well as the challenges they face. We’ve also invited a participating artisan to share their personal story and experience. The Community Cloth is an entrepreneurial program of The Alliance, a 37-year-old social service and resettlement agency based in Houston, TX.
