Volunteer Services & Agreement

I agree to undertake certain activities as a volunteer for Businesses United in Investing, Lending and Development, a non-profit organization located in California, New York City, Boston, Metro DC and Pittsburgh  ("BUILD") and therefore agree to the following terms and conditions:

1. Volunteer Relationship.  I will perform volunteer services for BUILD as approved by the Regional Executive Director.  In exchange for my volunteer services, I may receive, at the discretion of BUILD, meals and/or transportation.  Any meals, transportation or reimbursement for incidental expenses that I receive from BUILD are incidental to my volunteer status and solely for purposes of my aid and sustenance.  My services hereunder are purely voluntary, and neither BUILD nor I intend to create any employment, consultant or independent contractor relationship now or at any time in the future.

2. No Right to Employment Benefits.  I will not receive any pay, health and welfare benefits, or other privileges of employment for performing the above volunteer services.  I acknowledge and affirm that I am not eligible for worker’s compensation benefits in case of any injury or illness that results from the volunteer work nor am I eligible for unemployment compensation benefits once the volunteer relationship ends.

3. Termination of Volunteer Relationship.  Either BUILD or I may terminate the volunteer relationship at any time, with or without prior notice.

4. Waiver.  I understand that on account of my participation as a volunteer for BUILD, I may be exposed to some foreseen and unforeseen risks. I knowingly accept such risks and, fully understanding such risks, nonetheless wish to participate as a volunteer for BUILD.  Therefore, on my own behalf and on behalf of my heirs, representatives, administrators and assigns, and to the extent permitted by law, I hereby forever waive and release any and all claims, demands, causes of action, suits and rights I, or anyone else on my behalf, might have against BUILD, its officers, directors and/or employees.   Further, I agree that I will not, nor will I allow anyone else acting on my behalf, bring or maintain any lawsuit or other action against BUILD, its officers, directors and/or employees for any claim that I might have arising out of my participation in any activities sponsored by, sanctioned by or approved by BUILD, its officers, directors and/or employees.

5. Governing Law.  This agreement shall be interpreted and enforced in accordance with the laws of the state in which the volunteer services are performed. If any portion of this agreement is held invalid under applicable law, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

6. Photo Release. I hereby grant BUILD permission to use my likeness in photograph(s)/video in any and all of its publications and in any and all other media, whether now known or hereby existing, controlled by BUILD, in perpetuity, and for other use by BUILD. I will make no monetary or other claim against BUILD for the use of the photograph(s)/video.

7. Release of Information. I hereby grant BUILD permission to use my contact information to be added to email lists and/or be shared with students and fellow volunteers with the intent and approval of future contact between parties. Release of contact information is also important for BUILD’s data collection of volunteer services and hours. Revocation of this release of information can be requested at any time by the volunteer.
