The COVID Case for Single Payer: What the Pandemic Has Revealed to Patients and Healthcare Workers
Learning Outcome: Nurses will be able to compare and contrast our current US healthcare system to a single payer healthcare system.

Objectives:
  1. Recognize that the global pandemic revealed more starkly the way the US healthcare system is set up and how it negatively impacts our patients.
  2. Identify the components of the NYHA bill that would replace the current system with one that benefits all patients equally.
  3. Identify actions to educate peers, patients and the communities’ nurses serve in order to achieve a single payer healthcare system in the US

Health Justice for All: Lessons from the Civil Rights Movement
Learning Outcome: Nurses will be able to describe the central role the civil rights movement played in the passage of Medicare and Medicaid and identify similarities in the effort to adopt a single-payer healthcare system.

Objectives: At the conclusion of this program, the learner will be able to:
  1. Identify the historical context that led to the Civil Rights Movement with racial justice at its center
  2. Discuss the political process that led to the passage of Medicare and Medicaid with racial justice at its center
  3. Describe actions nurses can take to advocate for a more equitable healthcare system.
