TNOYS’ Young Adult Leadership Council (YALC) is a 12-month, part-time, paid internship and leadership development program for youth and young adults who have lived experience in systems. This influential experience gives YALC members the opportunity to help guide TNOYS’ work and shape the direction of youth services in Texas. 


  • Be between the ages of 16 and 25.
  • Have lived experiences in our systems, such as: child welfare/foster care, juvenile justice system involvement, homelessness, etc.
  • Have an interest and passion for learning about TNOYS systems-related policy, practice, and partnerships work.
  • Wish to learn, educate, influence change, and take youth services to the next level. 


  • This opportunity requires a 12 month commitment.
  • YALC members must attend a weekly 4 hour mandatory meeting every Friday from 10am to 2pm.
  • Willing to educate the public, policymakers, youth practitioners, professionals, and other youth on systems-involved youth.
  • Willing to be out and public about your lived experience and work with TNOYS through media such as photos, website features, speaking engagements, etc.


  • Gain experience in the following areas and more: public speaking, advocacy, youth-led training, leadership development, and professional development.
  • Gain real world job experience and be trained on skills that you can use to put on your resume.
  • Collaborate with executive staff and key decision-makers at TNOYS and other agencies.
  • Build relationships and increase your leadership and communication skills.
  • Meet and collaborate with peer leaders across Texas who are equally passionate about TNOYS issues.
  • Get paid $15 an hour for up to 10 hours a week.
  • Receive up to $2,000 in additional benefits and incentives.
