Families of students who would benefit from continuing to receive related services (occupational therapy, speech, deaf and hard of hearing services, etc.) listed in their IEP should consider enrolling the student in a public or charter school so that they may continue to receive these services. IU 26, the Intermediate Unit for students who reside within the School District of Philadelphia, does not currently provide direct Equitable Participation (EP) services to individual students. Children who are enrolled by their parent/guardians in private schools, including religious institutions, do not have an individual entitlement to services they would receive if they were enrolled in a public school. This means that there is no entitlement to direct Equitable Participation (EP) services for individual private school students.
Individualized Education Plan (IEP): An IEP provides special education supports and services. Students who have an IEP receive specially designed instruction. This means the student may receive related services (counseling, special education classes, speech therapy, occupational therapy, etc.) and or participate in a modified curriculum. Students who have an IEP would have gone through an evaluation of some sort, often called a psychoeducational evaluation.
Does the applicant currently have, or ever had, an Individual Education Plan (IEP)?
504 Plan: A 504 plan provides students with physical or mental impairments accommodations so that they can access the general education curriculum. Students who are eligible for 504 plans must have a condition that substantially limits one or more major life activities. Students who have a 504 may not have undergone an evaluation but have some sort of document that substantiates the need for accommodations.
Does the applicant currently have, or ever had, a 504 Plan?
If your child has ever had an IEP or 504 Plan, please make sure to submit the following paperwork before registration in order for us to be able to offer support or accommodations to your student at Cristo Rey:
