Contact

We have answered some frequently asked questions below but if you want to get in touch directly, you can contact the Young Voices team on UK@joinYV.org

What is Young Voices’ European Fellowship?
In 2022, Young Voices launched our European Fellowship. We took on a class of fellows who received expert PR training from our experienced in-house team. Since then, we have helped our European Fellows get over 300 articles published in major media outlets in more than 20 countries across Europe. Those outlets include national newspapers, magazines, and broadcasters in places like France, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Estonia, North Macedonia, and more. Read some highlights on our European website, YVeu.org

Who is eligible to apply?

Anyone aged 18-35 who is from or living in a mainland European country (excluding the UK) and wants to write about politics or policy from a liberty-oriented perspective.

What if I'm in the UK?

The European Fellowship is only for people in mainland Europe. If you're in the UK or elsewhere in the world, you should apply for our Contributor Program instead: joinYV.org/join

What is Young Voices' political ideology?

We believe in liberty, but we don't have a specific ideology as an organisation. We accept applicants from across the political spectrum because we are a broadchurch and we want to work with the intellectually curious. Fellows are always free to write their own opinions, even when they disagree with each other and with Young Voices staff.

However, we do have some content guardrails outlining some articles we won't work on, such as any calling for the US to engage in a land war in another country, any call for mass deportation of undocumented migrants, or any call for the government to own the means of production or significantly expand regulation on any industry. If you hope to write articles which would violate these guardrails, Young Voices is probably not right for you.

If you have questions about this, feel free to contact the team on UK@joinYV.org

Do I need writing experience?

No. If you have published articles already, that's great – please add the links to the relevant part of the application form. But if you have no past writing experience, don't let that deter you from applying. Young Voices has 10 years of experience in helping inexperienced writers refine their skills and get their work published.

What will happen if I join the fellowship?

Fellows will receive training from Young Voices’ team of PR and editorial experts, both as a group on Zoom and 1-to-1 by email and calls. We will teach you everything you need to know about writing and pitching op-eds about topics you care about. Our in-house team will guide you through every step of the process, from brainstorming ideas to writing and editing your article and securing publication.

How much of a time commitment is the fellowship?

Young Voices’ fellowships are designed to fit around full-time work or studies. Apart from attending our introductory Zoom call, you won’t need to be available at any specific time. You’re free to do the work at a time which suits you. Young Voices expects fellows to submit at least one article pitch to us per month, but apart from that, you’re free to write as much or as little as you wish.

Are fellows paid for their work?

Fellows will be paid for each op-ed they write according to its quality, up to a maximum of $500 (USD) per month. Fellows must write at least one op-ed per month, but they are welcome to write more.

What type of articles will I be writing?

Young Voices specialises in op-eds. An op-ed is a political or policy opinion article, usually 600-800 words. It is the type of article you would find under the 'comment' or 'opinion' section of a newspaper. We are not looking for news, features, journalism, arts or reviews. We want people with bold opinions on politics and policy who believe in liberty in Europe.

Will I have the freedom to choose what topics I write about?

Yes. As long as your submissions fit the bill – an op-ed about a political or policy topic, relevant to Europe – and comply with Young Voices' content guardrails, you can write about whatever topics you like. They might include:

  • Taxes and the cost of living

  • Energy and the environment

  • Consumer freedom and nanny statism

  • Tariffs and other barriers to free trade

  • Foreign policy and international affairs

  • Technology and innovation

  • Education

  • Healthcare

  • Immigration

  • Free speech and the free press

(This is not an exhaustive list.)

Fellows are not expected to write articles independently, especially at first. If you already have lots of ideas for op-eds, that’s great. But if you know you have lots to say about policy topics but you need some help getting started, that’s OK too. We’re here to help.

To see some examples of the type of op-eds we are looking for, have a look at the featured articles on our website homepage.

Do I have to write articles in English?

No. Your English needs to be good enough to communicate with the Young Voices team (based in the UK and US) and understand our training and our instructions, but when it comes to writing your articles, it often makes sense to do so in your native language. We will help you get published in media outlets across Europe, even those which do not publish in English.

How long does the fellowship last?

Young Voices will let applicants know in December whether they were successful or not. The Spring 2025 class of the fellowship will begin in January and run for 6 months, until the end of June. For those who perform well, there may be opportunities to stay on with Young Voices for longer.

What does the application involve?

There are two parts to this application form (Contact Information and Interest & Expertise). You will also need to upload an up-to-date CV or résumé. The application should only take a few minutes to complete. If you need to, you can save your progress and resume later.

When do applications close?

If you are interested in becoming a European fellow with Young Voices, please complete and submit the form below by 11:59pm CET on Saturday 30th November 2024 at the latest. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any late submissions, so if you have any questions or problems with the application, please contact us as soon as possible before the deadline.
