Statewide Authentication & Authorization questionnaire

Background & context: Oftentimes, statewide systems support multiple tiers of institutions with various configurations for (a) access to content, and (b) authentication. To support consistent, easy access to resources and recommend secure best practices, EBSCO would like to learn about your system’s current configuration.

Tiers within a statewide (glossary):

Highest tier: “Statewide system"
Mid-tier: “District” (K/12 Schools); “Library System” (Public Libraries); “Consortia” (Academic), etc. Mid-tier institutional organizations are likely smaller groups of institutions within the statewide system.
Lowest/most granular tier: An individual site, such as “School,” “Library Branch,” “University” or “College.” Sites at the lowest tier could be accessing resources purchased at the statewide and district level, but potentially also makes uniquely purchased resources available for just their institution’s users (e.g., Flipster)

Does your statewide system purchase EBSCO resources/content for accessing sites?

Do accessing sites of your statewide system also purchase unique content for their own users (not shared across all statewide members)?

Is that content accessed by whole Districts (middle tier), or Schools (lowest tier)? Or, is unique/non-shared content accessed both at the District and School tiers?

Do K/12 School Districts accessing shared statewide content use Clever SSO or SAML SSO, such as Google Classroom or ClassLink?

Do Academic, Public, or other consortia accessing shared statewide content use SAML SSO, such as Microsoft Active Directory, Okta, Ping, etc.?
