Section 5: Employment and Placement Details

Have you ever been convicted of a criminal offence?

The Brilliant Club provides enhanced disclosure DBS checks for all its tutors. These show all unspent convictions. A conviction does not necessarily mean we will not be able to place you in a school, however an unspent conviction can make it more challenging to place a tutor in a school. We approach these on a case-by-case basis in discussion with the tutor and potential placement schools. This section is your opportunity to explain, in as much detail as you can, your motivation for working as a Make your Mark tutor and what experience and skills you will bring to the role.

Q1) Why do you want to become a tutor in the Make your Mark programme?

Q2) As a Make Your Mark tutor, you would be tutoring 6 pupils in online and in person sessions. You would be provided course content and resources to help you teach. How would you ensure a high-quality tutorial where all students are engaging positively and learning?

Q3) Academic achievement gaps persist between more and less advantaged students. Make Your Mark exists to improve the academic achievement of less advantaged students, thereby increasing their opportunities to access higher education. What are the barriers that prevent students from accessing higher education? During the tutorials, how would you help pupils overcome these barriers?
