Learning Outcome: Participants will be able to identify various classifications of stroke and the application of selected nursing management interventions.

Objectives:
Identify the vascular and structural anatomy of the human brain.Discuss teaching methods for patients and their families regarding the risk factors and lifestyle modifications necessary to prevent initial or secondary stroke.Describe the emergency management of the stroke patient from the field to initial triage in ED.Identify the appropriate diagnostic tests for the stroke patient and the care prior and postā€test.Identify the various kinds of strokes and apply the current stroke guidelines for acute care management.Discuss medications currently available and used in the medical management of stroke patients.Identify the indications to be used with stroke patients and side effects of selected medications.Discuss the different methods used or discouraged when rehabilitating the stroke patient.Differentiate between types of strokes centers and certifications and use of Core Measures to improve the quality and outcomes in patient care.
