Learning Outcome: Participants will be able to identify currents standards of Oncology nursing practice and apply them to selected patient conditions.
Objectives:
Describe the techniques needed to prepare for the Oncology Nursing Certification Examination.Discuss the concepts of health promotion, epidemiology, prevention, current screening methodology in certain cancers and early detection of cancer.Identify the scientific basis for oncology disease and practices.Discuss current treatment modalities and their specific roles in cancer prevention and treatment.Discuss the etiology of symptoms experienced by oncology patients and the nursing management.Discuss the psychosocial dimension of nursing care of the oncology patient.Identify selected oncologic emergencies, including care and treatment of each.Discuss the concept of survivorship for those living with cancer.Discuss key concepts related to palliative and end of life care.Describe the role that oncology professional organizations can play in emphasizing professional expectations, standards and quality of nursing care for the oncology patient.
