Youth Project Leader
Please fill out the following information about the Project Leader, the youth applying for this grant.
Parent/Guardian
Please fill out the following information about the parent or guardian of the youth applying for this grant.
Mentor
We ask you to find an adult project mentor who will support you in completing your project. Your project mentor can be anyone who is interested in helping you with your project – for example, a teacher, a parent, a coach, a youth leader, etc. working with the school or youth organization. While your mentor will help you and give you advice, please help your mentor understand that you are in charge of making the important decisions about all parts of your project!
Sponsoring Organization
We require all applicants to be associated with a sponsoring organization or school, who will accept the grant funds for you. YSA cannot send grant funds to an individual. If you do not complete this section - or if you enter only an individual’s information - your application will not be accepted.
Choose a short project title (less than 10 words).

For fundraising projects, grantees may use up to 20% of their budget ($50 for $250 grants and $100 for $500 grants) for planning expenses and are expected to donate the other 80% ($200 for $250 grants and $400 for $500 grants), along with additional funds raised during the project, as a match.

Act
Use pages 16-17 and 21 of the Youth Changing the World Toolkit to help you prepare your answers.
The very best projects are ones that have a plan for long-term impact. We’re really interested in projects that bring new and creative solutions to the problem, accomplish things that an organization’s regular volunteers wouldn’t normally do, or start something new that will continue to help people after your initial project is completed.
Reflect, Demonstrate & Celebrate
Use pages 15 and 18-23 of the Youth Changing the World Toolkit to help you prepare your answers.
You can include the people who will be both directly and indirectly helped by your project. People who are helped directly include people who receive food/items/information from you while people who are helped indirectly include people who are helped by the group or individuals that receive food/items/information/money from you.
Budget
Use page 14 of the Youth Changing the World Toolkit to help you prepare your answers.

We're especially interested in funding start-up or expansion costs for projects that have a plan to raise additional local funds to continue.

Expenses that we are able to fund include:

• Recognition items (t-shirts, certificates, etc.) and snacks/refreshments are allowed but should not cost more than $100 for $250 awards or $200 for $500 awards;
• Things you need to complete your service (art supplies, seeds to plant, baskets to transport meals, etc.);
• Local transportation for youth doing service;
• Postage, copying, and printing directly related to your project.

Expenses that we CANNOT fund include:

Food or supplies that will be directly donated to project recipients (like cans of food for a food drive). Food or supplies that will be used to create meals that will be served at a shelter or supplement a meal packing are allowed;
• Expensive equipment that will be used only once, such as a GPS. If the equipment will be used many times in the future, be sure to explain that to us in your budget;
• Direct payments to people, like hiring a DJ or paying someone to speak at or attend your event;
• Anything called "miscellaneous expenses" that you do not fully explain;
• Funding of daily operations for ongoing programs;
• Long-range expenses NOT directly related to the proposed project.
