Future Frontiers- Enter Research Parent Consent

Please read the following information carefully before consenting for your child to take part in the research project

Who is conducting the research?

Future Frontiers is conducting the research. Future Frontiers is an education charity that runs a career coaching programme that supports young people to take positive steps after GCSEs on a journey towards their career aspirations.

Who is funding the research project?

The project is being funded by Future Frontiers.

What is the purpose of the research project?

This project is taking place in several schools in London. The project will explore the aspirations and expectations that young people have for the future, and whether these are met after GCSEs. The project will also explore the different factors help young people to meet their aspirations, or not.

Who is the Data Controller?

Future Frontiers is a data controller for this research and decides why and how your personal information is processed.

What data will Future Frontiers collect?

Data from your school:

We will ask your school to provide data they have on you. This will include data on your attainment (predicted and working-at grades) and your eligibility for Pupil Premium funding.

Data you provide in your survey responses:

We will ask you for personal data including your gender and ethnicity. We will ask you to respond to survey questions about your aspirations and expectations about the future, and about your engagement with career-related activities in and outside of school.

Who will use the data and for what?

Future Frontiers will link your school data with your survey data to produce a report about young peoples’ aspirations and expectations for the future, and whether these are met after GCSEs. Future Frontiers will share this report publicly.

Anonymity and confidentiality:

Your identifiable data will only be seen by a research team at Future Frontiers to enable us to match data from your school to your survey responses. Once this data is linked, your identifiable data will be deleted. We will only share aggregated data and quotes that are not identifiable.

How long do we hold your personal information:

We will retain a copy of your personal information as long as it is still needed for the purpose(s) for which it was collected. Your personal information will be kept until the project has been completed in July 2024, after which time Future Frontiers will destroy all personal data.

When, where and how will the research take place?

Young people will be asked to complete a short online survey during Year 11, and another short online survey during the autumn term of Year 12. Some people will also be offered the chance to participate in a focus group at school to talk further about their responses.

Who do we want involved?

A range of students currently in Year 11, some who are taking part in the Future Frontiers Careers Coaching Programme and some who are not.

What are the benefits of this research project?

There are no direct benefits or costs to you in taking part, however the information you provide us will help the Future Frontiers programme to be developed and improved for other students.
