MANDATORY REQUIREMENT FOR PARTICIPATION:
All participants must be registered with JIAS Toronto as clients. If you are not yet a client, please contact our intake department at 416-630-6481 ext. 5441 or email Lea Soibelman at leas@jiastoronto.org.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
This program is designed to help newcomers practice their English conversation skills in a friendly, informal, and supportive environment. There is no formal instruction, and there is no teacher. Using Zoom, small groups meet online for a weekly informal conversation that is facilitated by a volunteer who is fluent in English. The facilitator will bring interesting and engaging discussion topics for participants to practice English conversation skills and expand vocabulary. Along with conversation practice, this program also provides opportunities to form social connections with other newcomers and the volunteer facilitator.
REGISTRATION:
Please take a few minutes to complete this form if you would like to register for the Winter 2023 term.

Based on your English level and the facilitator's availability, we will try to place you in a group suitable for you. You will be invited to a zoom meeting with your facilitator and peers within the next few weeks!

If you have any questions, please email programsupport@jiastoronto.org

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY:

BEGINNER: I use simple sentences, and I have some control over basic grammar, but, communication is still difficult for me. I sometimes rely on gestures, and I need some support from the listener. My mistakes in grammar and pronunciation still make it hard for people to understand me (CLB 3).

INTERMEDIATE: I communicate with some confidence in routine situations, and I am starting to develop some control of more complex grammar. However, I can hesitated sometimes in speech, and my mistakes in grammar and pronunciation may sometimes make it hard for people to understand me (CLB 6).

ADVANCED: I communicate with increasing confidence in non-routine situations, and I have a good control of complex grammar. My mistakes in grammar and pronunciation very rarely make it hard for people to understand my meaning (CLB10).
