Thank you for your interest in nominating a student for the Sports
Backers/Richmond Times-Dispatch Active Living Leadership (ALL) Stars program.
The ALL
Stars program provides education, hands-on experiences, and mentorship to a
cohort of approximately 20 Scholar-Athletes from the Richmond region, providing these students an opportunity to earn a minimum of a $2,500 upon completion of the program. The
full cohort of ALL Stars meet for educational opportunities designed to
explore what contributes to an active community, existing inequities, and how
to make a difference in our community. ALL Stars are provided with opportunities to experience
active living initiatives first-hand through participation and volunteerism
with local organizations.
Throughout the program,
ALL Stars work together in small groups (crews) with the support of a
mentor. ALL Stars work together, with the support of their mentor, to
complete a capstone project that addresses an identified need in the active
living community.
There will be 5
in-person educational opportunities scheduled during the 26-27 academic year,
all of which will be held on Sunday afternoons to best accommodate the
student-athletes' schedules. The program graduation ceremony, where scholarships
will be awarded, will be held in May of 2027. In order to earn the $2,500
scholarship, each ALL Star is expected to:
- Attend and actively participate
in at least 4 of the scheduled educational opportunities.
- Meet
with their crew and mentor at least 4 times.
- Participate
in at least one active living opportunity, volunteer with at least one active
living organization, and actively contribute to their crew’s capstone project.
Each ALL
Star that meets the program expectations, as outlined above, will earn a
$2,500 scholarship. Additional scholarship awards will be available.
