Youth Leader Application

Youth Leaders are high-achieving, arts-centered young people committed to providing children with the best possible learning environment. Youth Leaders receive 20-25 hours of unpaid, hands-on training annually and commit to volunteering for the Institute annually on an as-needed basis. To serve as assistant teachers & role models during the Institute of Music's summer and/or school year art programs.

About the Institute:


Located at 780 Salem Ave. in Elizabeth, The Institute of Music for Children, Inc. (IMC) is a non-profit organization whose programs and services are designed to ensure that children, ages five to seventeen, have fun while learning and gaining an appreciation for the arts.  As a Youth Leader, you agree to work to the best of your ability in helping to achieve the Institute’s vision of creating H.A.R.M.O.N.Y.~ Helping Achieve Responsible Motivated Optimistic Neighborhood Youth.

Becoming a Youth Leader: 
 
Students ages 14 -22 and are invited to apply to be a Youth Leader.  
 
Youth Leader opportunities will be offered in the following tiers: 
 
  1. TIER 1: Youth Leader in Training (ages 14-17) – Volunteer position  (unpaid)
  2. TIER 2: Junior Youth Leader (ages 15-18) – ½ Volunteer & ½ Paid  
  3. TIER 3: Youth Leaders – (ages 16-22) – Paid position  
  4. TIER 4: Youth Leader Supervisor – (ages 18-22) – Paid position  
  5. TIER 5: Teacher in Training – (ages 20 and up) – Paid position

Available Days and Hours: 


SEPTEMBER – MAY   (Afterschool Program)  

Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 4:30 pm-8:30 pm

Saturdays 9:30 am-3:30 pm


Youth Leaders assist and participate as role models in a variety of courses including art, drama, dance, electronic music, and a wide range of instrumental music. 


ALL APPLICANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO BE A PART OF THURSDAY TEEN NIGHTS  


JUNE- AUGUST  (Summer Program)

Monday – Friday, 5 days a week for 6 weeks. 
7:45am-3:45pm. (Under 18)
7:15am-5:30pm (Over 18)

YLs must attend unpaid training sessions before and during the Afterschool/Summer program and participate in volunteering and fundraising throughout their time in the program.
