INTRODUCTION

On behalf of our team at Builders Vision (BV), we invite you to participate in our first annual

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) & impact survey. As we partner with you to build a more humane and healthy planet, we will send you this survey once per year to learn more about your fund’s ESG strategy and practices, as well as the impact of your investment and engagement activities on people and planet, so that we can best support, champion, and amplify your work over time. We realize that this request is one of many competing priorities as you operate your fund, however we believe that a strong foundation for impact measurement and management (IMM) will be a competitive advantage to your success in the market and look forward to learning with you along the way.

This survey is intended to capture data as of year-end 2022, and is divided into two sections:

SECTION 1: Firm-Level Information

A. Firm’s Commitment to ESG & Impact

B. Demographic Profile of Firm’s Full-time Employees & Firm Ownership

SECTION 2: Strategy-Level Information

A. ESG Considerations

B. Impact Considerations

C. Demographic Profile of Senior Leadership & Boards of Portfolio Companies

Section 1 relates to ESG & impact data specific to your firm/management company, and Section 2 requests ESG & impact data specific to the strategy (or “fund”) in which BV has invested. If BV is invested in multiple strategies (or "funds"), there is space to provide information on each one. We understand that not all questions may be relevant to BV’s investment, in which case please feel free to mark them as “Not Applicable” (N/A).

Since there are no universally accepted standards for impact reporting at this time, we have designed the survey questions to align with best practices set forth by industry groups such as B Corp, the Impact Management Platform (IMP), the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA), and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), among others. It is our hope that this helps to streamline your responses to reporting requests as much as possible.

Click here for a link to download a Word version of the survey for your reference to support your data gathering and coordination across your team.

Please note that there can only be one email login and password combination for shared access to the survey. If you are the first to access the survey, please click "Save my progress and resume later," create a login and password, and share that with other collaborators. Those individuals can then access the survey link, click "Resume a previously saved form," and login using the shared credentials. In order to prevent version control issues, we recommend avoiding simultaneous data entry.

Since the survey does not automatically save your inputs, please use the "Save my progress and resume later" option, available at the top and bottom of each survey page, to ensure that you are saving and accessing the latest version of your survey. Each time you click "Save my progress and resume later," the platform will prompt you to re-enter your email login and password. The same combination should be used each time.

We plan to use survey data for a range of internal and external purposes, including:

  • Informing ongoing conversations with BV about how we can support your fund, enhance your success in the market, and deepen your long-term social and environmental outcomes.
  • Reporting on firm-level impact to BV’s leadership team.
  • Reporting on strategy-level impact of BV’s investment managers to internal and external audiences.

All firm and strategy-level responses will be treated confidentially and anonymized and/or aggregated for external reporting purposes. In some circumstances, we may request your explicit permission to share data or stories with external audiences following your submission. By responding to this survey you consent to your data being used in the way described above.

Please direct any questions related to this survey to impact@buildersvision.com and a member of our IMM team will respond as soon as possible. We also invite feedback and suggestions on how we might improve this process moving forward. Thank you in advance for your input and participation!

We ask that you please submit this survey by Friday, May 26th, 2023.

12. Impact Metrics

In the below section, please identify the most meaningful metrics that you are currently using, or plan to use, for measuring the impact of your strategy/fund on people and planet. We recommend limiting this list to a maximum of 5 metrics that align with your fund’s intended impact. If you are not using fund-level impact metrics, please choose the 1-5 company-specific metrics that are most illustrative of the fund’s intended impact. For each metric, we've asked for year-end 2022 data as well as year-end 2021 data to inform performance over time.  An example is included below for your reference. Please note that even if you don't have data to report at this point, we still ask that you include impact metrics that you plan to use in the future to measure your fund's impact.
