AMSI Winter School 2023 - Application Form

AMSI is pleased to partner with the Queensland University of Technology to host AMSI Winter School 2023 on Modelling our Changing Biosphere from 3 - 14 July at their Garden Points Campus, Brisbane and online.

It is expected that all participants will be proficient in algebra at an advanced (e.g., 2nd/3rd year) undergraduate level. We would prefer that participants also have some experience with statistics and/or data analysis. Applicants should address their level of knowledge and preparedness in the application.
  • Acceptance into AMSI Winter School 2023 is at the discretion of the Event Director.
  • Applicants will be notified via email (to the address provided on this form) the outcome of their application
  • All participants are expected to give a brief 'Participant Talk' on your research interests and/or PhD thesis topic relevant
  • All attendees are expected to attend all program classes for the duration of the two week Winter School
  • Application for AMSI Winter School includes both submission of this Application Form as well as the Fee Payment via the Queensland Univeristy of Technology online payment gateway (which you will be directed to when you submit this form).

AMSI Student Grants
AMSI Travel Grants provide accommodation support for mathematical sciences and cognate discipline students at AMSI Member Universities to attend Winter School. A small number of flight grants are also available.

Female, First Nations and regional, rural and remote students are encouraged to apply.

There is a limited amount of grant funding available. It is expected that you research financial support options available through your home university and ask your supervisor/course coordinator for support to attend Winter School BEFORE making an application for an AMSI Grant.

Accommodation
Successful applicants will receive 13 nights accommodation including breakfast in a single room with shared bathroom at The Women's College - a student college located at the University of Queensland.

Check out: Saturday 15 July

This accommodation will be booked and paid for directly by AMSI.

Public transport is available to travel from The Women's College, UQ to QUT via the Brisbane CityCat. You are responsible for your own travel arrangements from the college to the Winter School venue each day.

Funding is available for delegate economy domestic travel from their home city to Brisbane. Funding will not be granted for Ubers/Taxis or public transport.
Participant Talks
As part of the  program, all participants are expected to give a brief 10-15 minute Participant Talk on your research interests and/or PhD thesis topic. (note: presentation lengths and timings will be confirmed closer to the event).
