Help lower dental costs for eligible families earning less than $90,000 per year. Parents and guardians may be eligible if they pay for dental care for a child under 12 years old who does not have access to a private dental insurance plan. Depending on your adjusted family net income, a tax-free payment of $260, $390, or $650 is available for each eligible child. You can apply for a maximum of 2 payments per child. Apply for the benefit through the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) website. 


Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program (OSDCP)

Seniors 65 years and older who live in Ontario may be eligible for the OSDCP. Annual net income for eligible seniors is $22,200 or less for a single person, or $37,100 or less for a couple. Apply for a free card that provides discounts on select prescription medications. The card can be shown at your pharmacy to receive a discount. 


Ontario Trillium Drug Program

Individuals may be eligible for the program if they:
  • Live in Ontario
  • Have a valid Ontario health card number
  • Not enrolled into the Ontario Drug Benefit
  • Does not have an insurance plan that pays for 100% of drugs
  • Spend 4% or more of after-tax income on prescription drugs

The program runs annually from August 1 to July 31. Apply by September 30 to be reimbursed for drug costs from the previous program year. Application form is available online or by phone.


Seniors Co-Payment Program

The Seniors Co-Payment Program (SCP) provides financial assistance to qualifying seniors by reducing their out-of-pocket drug costs. Seniors must be 65 years old or older and meet the low income requirements to qualify for the program. GreenShield Cares: Women’s Mental Health support 

Offers women free Digital Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for one year. CBT is a type of therapy that helps manage mental health problems by changing how we think and act. This program includes two online programs and optional CBT coaching. Coaches provide additional support and space for discussing questions and addressing possible concerns.

Ontario Disability Support Plan - Eye Care Coverage

Individuals who are on ODSP can get help with costs of routine eye exams (once every 2 years), eyeglasses (once every 3 years), and eyeglass repairs. Coverage is available for the individual, their spouse and children under 18 years old. 


Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) Eye Care Coverage 

OHIP covers the cost of 1 major eye exam every 12 months for individuals 19 years or younger, and 65 years and older. OHIP does not cover eye exams for people between 20-64 years old, unless you have a specific medical condition affecting your eyes that requires regular monitoring. Mobility for Good Seniors Program

Mobility for Good is a program for low income seniors receiving the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) benefit with low-cost wireless service. Customers can bring their own device or take advantage of a $75 discount towards the online purchase of a refurbished smartphone through our retail partner, Mobile Klinik. There are no contract or cancellation fees. Applicants will need to provide their Old Age Security statement to apply.

Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Centre runs LEAP in Mississauga, which helps low income clients apply for one-time funding to pay for bills in arrears if they are also in threat of disconnection. They will pre-screen customers for eligibility and help people complete the application process. The electricity service providers covered by the program include Enbridge, Alectra Utilities, Wyse Meter Solutions, Metergy Solutions, and Priority Sub Meter Solution.

If you are a customer of an electric utility and in a lower income home, you may qualify for a reduction on your electricity bill through the Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP). It is also available to customers of unit sub-meter providers and retail energy companies. If your home is electrically heated, or you rely on medical devices requiring a lot of power, OESP offers a higher level of assistance.
First Nations and Métis will also qualify for a higher level of assistance. This program is run by Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Centre.

A child care subsidy reduces the amount of money that you pay for licensed child care for your children 12 years and younger. You can check your eligibility and apply on the website. To apply, you must:
  • Be living in Peel with children 12 years and younger.
  • Be working, going to school, or have a special need for your child to attend child care.
  • Have filed your previous year's income tax return (if you arrived in Canada this year, you may provide your Canada Child Benefit notice instead).
EDUCATION: Get free school supplies

Free school supplies are made available in August by some local food banks that have special programs. While it is not available at all food banks, you can ask the staff at your local food bank or pantry to see if they have free school supplies available.
