About the Job
The ArtPride New Jersey Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is currently seeking freelance feature writers to create compelling stories for JerseyArts.com, its digital publication.


Features Writers will be expected to research subjects, conduct interviews, and produce stories 800-1200 words in length. Writers are welcome to pitch ideas, but stories are assigned by and submitted to ArtPride's digital content manager, who serves as the assignment editor.

Job Responsibilities

Conduct research on the artist(s), industry leader(s), production, event, venue, etc. associated with assigned storiesCreate interesting questions for the subjects and story headlinesCommunicate with (and quote) the subjects directly Write compelling copy to capture the attention of readers, using the Associated Press Stylebook format Provide photos (including photo captions)Secure any rights needed for publication Provide social media handles and tags for subject(s) and venue(s) Fact-check, spell-check, and proofread all copy prior to submissionReview all edits and address all comments by the Foundation assignment editor in the time frame required Share published content on social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (or relevant experience) Track record of producing arts and entertainment content for digital publicationJournalism background Knowledge of the performing and visual artsAbility to meet deadlinesCapacity to work independently

Preference will be given to those candidates who have the skill to write in the Associated Press style. An established following on social media is a plus. Travel throughout the region may be, although rarely, necessary to meet the needs of a story.

Salary: $350 per/story (plus travel expenses, if necessary)
