Committee Application Form

HELP LEAD SAFSF AS A COMMITTEE VOLUNTEER

SAFSF is accepting applications for volunteers to serve on the committees listed below for minimum one-year terms beginning January 1, 2024. The deadline for volunteer submissions is October 1, 2023 and notifications will be made no later than October 31, 2023.

Please review the committee descriptions for specific eligibility requirements, which vary depending on the committee. Each committee may have a maximum of 10 members. Serving on a committee is an excellent way to learn more about SAFSF's work and to help set the direction in specific areas of interest. Most successful board candidates have previously served on an SAFSF committee or task force.

Membership Committee
Open to current SAFSF members

General Purpose
The Membership Committee actively advises and helps to execute membership recruitment and retention plans for the organization and serves as primary point of contact for new members to the broader membership. The committee reviews all new member applications and makes recommendations to the full board on all new members. The committee provides guidance and feedback to staff on membership services and future offerings, reviews progress toward recruitment and retention goals, and recommends tactics to support organizational growth. The committee reviews the dues structure and schedule as needed and makes recommendations for any changes to the board in the context of organizational sustainability.
Appointments and Composition
The committee is chaired by a member of the board and will consist of at least one additional board member. Additional members of the committee must be current SAFSF members.
Meeting Schedule
The Membership Committee meets quarterly to review new member applications. The meetings coincide with application deadlines (January 15, April 15, July 15, and October 15). Additional meetings may be scheduled as needed to address membership policies, processes and other membership needs.
Nominating Committee
Open to current SAFSF members

General Purpose
The Nominating Committee serves to recruit and nominate an annual slate of new directors willing and able to serve. The committee assesses current and anticipated needs related to board composition, including consideration of both organizational and individual diversity of expertise, skills, influence, background, and other elements deemed appropriate for the strength and success of SAFSF. The committee is responsible for communicating directly to the network about the criteria and opportunities available.
Appointments and Composition
The committee is chaired by a member of the board and includes at least one additional director. Additional members of the committee must be current SAFSF members.
Meeting Schedule
Meetings are convened as needed to accomplish the nomination process, approximately two to three (2-3) times a year, generally during the first two quarters of the year. New directors are presented to the board at the May board meeting to start their term as of June 1, unless required on a different timetable to fill vacant seats.
Policy Committee
Open to both members and nonmembers of SAFSF*

General Purpose
The Policy Committee reviews and evaluates SAFSF’s policy engagement, makes recommendations to the board regarding longer-term policy strategy and provides guidance on the annual policy agenda and work plan, recommending modifications as needed. Committee members also champion policy conversations within the broader SAFSF membership.
Appointments and Composition
The committee must include at least one director currently serving on the board. The committee may be chaired by a member of the board or utilize a co-chair model; if the latter, at least one of the co-chairs must be currently serving on the board. Additional members of the committee are not required to be SAFSF members but must bring a strong interest in or expertise in policy to their service on the committee.
Meeting Schedule
The committee meets four (4) times annually; one of which may be an in-person meeting. Committee members are also expected to regularly attend SAFSF policy events and other external meetings with policymakers and/or external partners which may include webinars, in-person convenings and meetings, or policy-specific sessions at the annual SAFSF Forum, customarily held in June.
*The policy committee has two non-member slots and both are filled through 2024. If you are a funder and not an SAFSF member, and interested in serving on the policy committee, you are welcome to submit this form and we will hold your information on file for when positions become available in 2025.
