EBSCO & MOBIUS: Locate Access, Authentication and Single Sign-On (SSO) Setup Questionnaire

Welcome to EBSCO's Locate Authentication and Single Sign-On (SSO) Setup Questionnaire for MOBIUS. This questionnaire is designed to help us set up SSO, when available, and Patron Empowerment Functionality for your new Locate instance. The answers you provide will be used by the EBSCO implementation team to facilitate the setup, testing and deployment of your preferred authentication to your new Locate resource.

The estimated time for completion of the questionnaire is about 10 minutes. In order to complete the questionnaire for an SSO setup, you should have a working proficiency of your organization’s SSO capabilities and be able to upload or provide a link to the IdP SAML metadata file. If you are unsure of or unable to complete the questionnaire, please contact your Implementation Project Managers, Erin (estanger@ebsco.com) and Grace (gdonovan@ebsco.com), to assist you.

About Locate:

Locate, EBSCO’s OPAC solution for FOLIO, brings all library services under one roof, making integration, service and support seamless. Using Locate, patrons can search and browse their library’s catalog, add titles to their bookshelf, and place a hold on a title to pick up at the library.

Your Library Users

In order to set up the best access and authentication solution for your library's Locate instance, we'd like to learn more about your library's users.

Most importantly, we need to know:
  • What type(s) of users (groups) have library patron accounts?
  • Which user groups should have patron empowerment functionalities (be able to view their checkouts and place holds) in Locate?
  • How and where are the accounts are managed?

Note that Locate is open to guest users to search and view item details. Authenticating (personalizing) into Locate is only required for patron functionalities such as placing a hold, viewing any checkouts and/or fees associated with a user's account via My Bookshelf

Authentication Options for Locate

Which of the following authentication methods will your library use to login to and enable patron actions (place holds, see checkouts, etc.) within Locate?

Persistent ID is a required attribute for SSO integration.

User Accounts and Attributes

How does Locate manage user accounts?

User details and library transactions (circulation, holds, fees) are tied to the FOLIO user account. Locate maintains a "shell" patron record with the minimum information required (first name, last name, email and persistent ID) for the user to authenticate with Locate and match the user to their corresponding user account in FOLIO.

The External System ID in Locate must match the External System ID in FOLIO in order for the user to log in to Locate and for user's loans, holds and fees to display.

For this reason, please indicate which field you are using for the External System ID in FOLIO and in Locate. If you're not sure, please write N/A and we will discuss this further with you.

Please indicate the Attribute Names that your organization will be including in your SAML Assertions.

Note: A unique, persistent user ID is a required attribute for EBSCO’s SSO integration into Locate. Examples of the Attribute Names we’re looking for below can be found here and here. Please indicate exactly how the Attribute Name appears in your Identity Provider.

Just-in-time User Creation

Locate can be configured to support just-in-time FOLIO user creation with SSO.

  • For libraries with just-in-time user creation on, a FOLIO user account will automatically be created (if it does not already exist) when a user successfully authenticates via SSO.
  • For libraries that do not allow FOLIO user accounts to be created automatically for any account in their institutional SSO, just-in-time user creation should be off.

EBSCO Test User Account

Providing EBSCO's implementation and support teams with a test user account for your library will greatly decrease the turnaround time for your setup and is extremely helpful in troubleshooting issues that we we may encounter during the setup process.

The test account must be configured with the same user data attributes to be used for production users, must also exist as a patron record in FOLIO, and the persistent ID must match the external system ID in FOLIO.

IF THERE ISN'T ANYONE WHO CAN COMMIT TO RUN VERIFICATION TESTING WITH US, WE WILL HAVE TO HOLD YOUR IMPLEMENTATION UNTIL SOMEONE CAN BE AVAILABLE OR UNTIL YOU CAN PROVIDE TEST CREDENTIALS.
