Boston’s Higher Ground, Inc. (“Higher Ground”) is a nonprofit organization in Roxbury,  Massachusetts with the mission to connect children, youth and families in Boston’s underserved communities to existing solutions and services that continue to improve,  avoid duplication, and empower and transform lives from cradle to career by engaging  community-based organizations and key stakeholders in an effective and efficient service  delivery model.

The Higher Ground strategy falls into three main areas in which social, educational, and economic disparities are challenged: Schools, Health Equity, and  Housing. Higher Ground serves 1,000 students and families annually in its partner public schools, has helped place more than 500 homeless children and their families into homes, collaborated with more than 64 partners to increase impacts on the well-being of children and families; and has organized parents into an increasingly strong coalition to shift power and disrupt systems of inequity.

About NextGen Explorers Youth & Young Adult Mentoring
As part of Higher Ground's NextGen Explorers mentoring program, youth employees (14-18 years old) will be paired with an adult mentor they meet with weekly and work in either our after school program from October to June during the school year or our summer learning academy in July and August. During the school year, youth mentors also have the opportunity to be part of a computer science program and learn C++ programming.

Youth employees (14-18 years old) will be paid $15.00 per hour, for up to 10 hours per week, during the school year, and up to 25 hours per week during the summer.

Individual start dates for mentors may vary based on Criminal (CORI) and Sexual (SORI) Offender Background checks, attending orientation training, and complete all hiring paperwork during employee onboarding and processing.
