Summer 2024 Internship for Entrepreneurially-Minded Students

NC IDEA seeks talented undergraduate students with a genuine interest in startups and entrepreneurship, regardless of major, as demonstrated by taking an entrepreneurship class, starting a business, working at a startup, or some other relevant experience. Candidates should possess life experiences or personal perspectives relating to the underserved populations we serve through our grants and programs, including people of color, women, and rural or economically distressed communities.


This program is ideal for students with 1) a desire, following graduation, to become involved in a startup company or organization supporting startups in North Carolina or 2) skills or interest in one of the many areas that could be useful to NC IDEA or one of our startups.

Role and Responsibilities

This paid internship will provide an impactful experience with an organization at the center of North Carolina’s startup ecosystem.  You will learn about startups and the organizations across North Carolina that support entrepreneurship.  The specific projects you will work on depend on NC IDEA's needs and your skills and interests.  


This experience will allow interns to dedicate their summer to a diverse range of projects including, but not limited to:


Projects that support the work of NC IDEA:

  • Researching, updating, and analyzing data about the North Carolina entrepreneurial ecosystem and startups around the state
  • Improving and updating our website and social media content, including case studies on the companies that receive our grants
  • Assisting in the execution of our programs and seminars
  • Market research or competitive analysis
  • Web or social media content
  • Financial modeling

Responsibilities include: 

  • Assisting in the scoping projects submitted by NC IDEA companies and staff
  • Preparing project proposals
  • Managing calendar and project work with oversight from graduate fellows, including meeting deadlines and preparing deliverables
  • Attending NC IDEA MICRO programming


Commitment

The position is 40 hours per week and requires a commitment of 10 weeks during June-August. Exact dates are flexible to meet the student’s schedule.  The salary is $20/hour.  


Additional Benefits
Interns are considered valuable members of the NC IDEA team and will participate in the weekly staff meetings. Depending on their schedules, interns are also invited to take part in any NC IDEA meetings and events that are of interest, including NC IDEA grant recipient update meetings, ECOSYSTEM partner gatherings, and speaker series presentations. They will also receive the mentorship of the staff and opportunities to network with entrepreneurs, investors, and advisors from around the state.
