Thank you for your interest in the Industrial Trades Program built in partnership with the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division!


Are you eligible to apply to the Industrial Trades Program?

To be considered, all applicants must commit to the full training schedule (below); be a resident of Philadelphia; possess a high school diploma or GED; and be able to pass a physical.


Because this part of the application process can take 45-minutes or more to complete well, first answer the questions below to determine if you meet the requirements to fill out this application.



Program Description
What is the Industrial Trades Program?


The Industrial Trades Program was built to prepare and connect graduates for a two-year opportunity as union trainees with the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division at the Navy Yard. Trainees learn theory instruction and complete hands-on training to become either Machinery Mechanics or Electricians to support naval machinery functionality.


In this program, we offer:

  • Cutting-edge job connection strategies resulting in 93% of WPSI graduates finding employment
  • A $150 weekly stipend during the WPSI program participation
  • The opportunity to interview for $25/hr with benefits as Union Trainees with NSWCPD

This is a hybrid in-person and virtual program, so broadband internet is required to complete the training.


All applications must be submitted by 5PM, on Friday,  September 29th, 2023.

Who should apply?

Problem-solvers with a safety-first mindset who enjoy working with their hands and performing physical labor. Commitment to the full training schedule (below) is required:  
  • In-Person Sessions, Mon-Fri 9AM - 12 PM (October 30 - November 17)
  • Additional one-on-one and small group virtual meetings several times a week between 1PM - 3PM
  • Approximately 2 hours of daily reading and reflection exercises
  • One self-scheduled 30-minute Career Coaching session per week on Zoom
