Our Recommendation: $14,000

Project GO!
Gamers Outreach is a charity that empowers hospitalized children through video games. We’re building a world where play is easily prioritized alongside research and treatment.

GO Karts aim to create an environment in which every hospitalized child can find comfort, joy, and support. During treatment, kids deserve a chance to be themselves. Video games are unique tools that provide children with access to digital playgrounds. Through gaming, kids can explore worlds, connect with others, express creativity, learn new skills, and most importantly, simply have fun.

Prior Grant: (2021) 24-Hour Human Trafficking Hotline for $25,000
Current Ask: $20,000 towards Cast's Youth Program
Our Recommendation: $5,000

CAST's Youth Program
Recognizing the specialized needs of trafficked minors and transition-aged youth (TAY), CAST provides group activities focused on empowerment, positive experiences, and education; comprehensive case management and advocacy with interventions designed for youth; assistance navigating government systems; and internships for TAY to build job skills and professional development.

The program provides a continuum of care for youth: from crisis care to long term case management, legal services, and advocacy support, applying youth-centered engagement interventions and celebrating every success.

Our youth program case managers are available to clients 24 hours a day for their first 90 days at Cast. Additionally, Cast Youth Events are intended to build confidence, solidarity and life skills for youth survivors. From 2020-22, Cast enhanced the youth event program, which was critical during the COVID-19 pandemic, when youth could no longer meet in person safely. Cast ran monthly virtual events and sent care packages and event-specific items (like food ingredients and crafts) to clients’ homes.

Over the last year, Cast served 112 youth survivors of human trafficking.

Prior Grant: (2022) Child Therapy Program for $25,000
Current Ask: $25,000 to expand the Family Advocate Program with a bilingual Family Advocate Case Manager
Our Recommendation: $25,000

Family Advocate Program
The Family Advocate (FA) program is designed to support non-abusive caregivers in cases of alleged child abuse in such a manner that they can act responsibly to protect and support the child. The FA program supports multidisciplinary investigation of sexual abuse cases by providing education and support to the non-abusive caregiver throughout the investigative process.
The Family Advocates frequently provide services to the caregivers of children in therapy. This allows the child's therapist to concentrate attention on the child while the FA attends to the needs of the caregiver. The ultimate result is a caregiver who is better prepared to help the child because their own emotional needs have been met.

The Family Advocates will provide services to 700 direct and indirect victims of child abuse during the grant year and provide translation services in forensic interviews as needed to their Spanish speaking population.
