Purpose: 
The purpose of this need-based scholarship is to encourage and provide individuals of farmworker families that live in Oregon with the opportunity to further their academic or technical education at the educational institution of their choosing.

Scholarships Available:

Individual awards range from $1,500-$5,000 per scholarship winner. Amounts awarded are determined by number of completed applications received and scoring.


Eligibility Information:

  • Maintain Oregon residency with a permanent Oregon address.
  • Be enrolled during 2024-2025 academic year in an accredited community college, 4-year or graduate  college/university, or trade/technical/vocational school (does not have to be an Oregon school).
  • Be from a farmworker household (within the last 5 years). 
  • Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED) or be pursuing/enrolled in a qualified academic program by the end of June 2024.
  • No specific GPA is required, although your GPA will count toward your total score.

Application Requirements:

  1. Verify that you meet eligibility requirements mentioned above. Examples of eligible farmwork jobs are included here and a more detailed description provided here

  2. Submit this completed online application form.

  3. Submit a full academic year of your most current high school and/or college transcript (unofficial or official).  If you have not yet completed your first year of higher education, please submit your most recent full year of high school or contact us if you are unable to do so.
  4. Submit a current résumé. Please make sure to list work experience, volunteer work, community service, extracurriculars, and leadership experience. Try to create a resume that is concise and organized. Click here to see samples of resumes.
  5. Submit a W-2, paystub, or employer letter (on employer letterhead) for yourself or a family member in your household verifying agricultural employment within the last 5 years. Please contact us if you are unable to provide this. 
  6. Submit a Personal Statement*.  Your entry must be at minimum of 1 full page and maximum of 2 full pages in length and formatted as such: double spaced, 12 point font, and 1 inch margins

    If you are not a previous Sister Adele Scholarship winner- share your story in a narrative and be sure it includes details about each of the following:
  • Your family and background;
  • Your experience as a part of a farmworker family;
  • Your work history, volunteer experience, career path and goals; and
  • Your financial situation, needs, and how this scholarship would help.

 *If you are a previous Sister Adele Scholarship winner- answer this prompt instead and please tell us about:

  • How your most recent academic year has moved you along in meeting your academic goals and career path, as well as any challenges you have faced.
  • How this scholarship has helped you in your journey. How have your goals, perspective, and/or experience changed since you first received the scholarship?
  • How has your background as someone from a farmworking family shaped your education experience?
  • An update on your financial status and need.

For up to 5 bonus points, turn in a video that is 1-2 minutes long telling us about yourself, career goals, and/or what it means to come from a farmworking family. Feel free to be creative! Submit your response as an MP4 or video file format.

Applications must be submitted by Friday, February 16, 2024 at 11:59 pm.
