What is the Lansing Promise Scholarship?
The Lansing Promise Scholarship is a last dollar scholarship. The purpose of the last dollar scholarship is to pay for eligible tuition and fees that are not covered by other state and federal scholarships and/or grants that are awarded through the FAFSA process.
Because the Lansing Promise Scholarship is a last dollar scholarship you will only see Lansing Promise Scholarship funding on your student account if there are tuition and fees remaining on your account after all other awarded state/federal scholarships and grants are applied.
Where and when can I use the Lansing Promise Scholarship?
You have to apply and be accepted to use the Lansing Promise Scholarship at one of the five Lansing Promise post-secondary partner schools: Lansing Community College, Michigan State University, The University of Olivet, Davenport University or Douglas J Aveda Institute.
At LCC and Douglas J, Lansing Promise provides last dollar scholarship assistance for up to $10,000 to be used for tuition, books, and course fees within 6 years of graduating high school.
At MSU, Olivet, or Davenport the Lansing Promise Scholarship will assist with last dollar tuition assistance of $20,000. This will be divided equally over eight semesters at $2,500 per semester. You must start college within two years of graduation and you have a total of six years (once you start) to use all the Lansing Promise Scholarship funds.
Your Lansing Promise Scholarship funding will be designated ONLY to the college indicated in section 3 above. Your Lansing Promise Scholarship will NOT automatically transfer to any of the other Promise partner colleges without prior approval from the Lansing Promise. You must contact Lansing Promise at info@lansingpromise.org if your college information changes. Do not submit another acceptance form to update designated school information.
How do I continue receiving the Lansing Promise Scholarship after the first year?
In order to remain eligible to receive Lansing Promise Scholarship funding each year, you are required to complete the FAFSA application and verification process by July 1st.
