Learning Outcome: The participant will be able to discuss current practice and the role of the nurse in community and public health.
Objectives:
- Discuss the historical perspective and principles of community health nursing in current practice.
- Demonstrate an understanding of epidemiological concepts and their application in public health.
- Identify the components of community health assessments, needs, and comprehensive community health plans.
- Discuss various nursing organizations that support community/public health.
- Identify health promotion and disease prevention strategies that would be effective in diverse communities.
- Discuss cultural competence, ethical principles, and health disparities in community health nursing practice.
- Discuss planning and response, recovery for disaster situations.
- Identify community health education methods and barriers to implementation.
- Discuss professional development and leadership opportunities in the field of community health nursing.
- Identify policies and initiatives that advance the practice of community health nursing and improve community health outcomes.
