Your contact details
This set of questions is about you, the person applying for the grant. As a care leaver, some of this information will be shared with Hampshire County Council to enable them to confirm that you are a care leaver. All other information will be anonymised by the time it reaches the people who make the final decision on your grant.

HIWCF may talk about the number and value of grants we make to care leavers, but we will not do that in a way that could identify you.

What you want the grant for
We want you to tell us a little about yourself, and what you want the grant for. These grants are only available to care leavers who have been in the care of Hampshire County Council. You must be aged 18 to 25 years to apply.
The funds are intended to help you access education, training or employment.  You can apply for general support (any education or training could be considered) but some money is reserved for education opportunities in the arts or drama.  Any education or training that is supported through these grants must be a recognised qualification (eg BTEC, Diploma in Nursing, A Level, BSc).

Please give as much information as possible. For example, if you are asking for money for a laptop, tell us how it will help you in your chosen course of study.  If you are applying for costs for transport to college, explain how much this will cost in the year.

Project Budget
This set of questions is about your budget for the grant. The most you can apply for is £500. Please apply only for what you need, up to this amount.
Guidance:

The following explains what you need to do to complete this section. We have used a laptop as an example:

1. Select "Core Costs" under the option "Spending category" first.

2. In the "Total project cost" box, put the total cost of the laptop .

3. Then in the "Amount requested" box, put the amount you are applying for (£500 or less).

4. Then in the "description of spending" box, describe the make and model of laptop you want to buy .

If you have additional items to buy with the grant, eg software, add that information in another line, following the steps above again.

When completing this section, please always select "Core Costs" under "Spending category".

Your letter of recommendation
Every application from a care leaver needs a letter of reference from a Hampshire County Council Personal Advisor, a social worker or a Youth Worker from a community group that you take part in.

This letter will be provided in full to the panel who make the final decision about the grant, but your name will be anonymised.

Please ask your Personal Advisor to provide a letter covering:

- Confirming your full name;
- How long they have known you;
- Why they think you would benefit from the award;
- Why they think this would help you;
-  Why you would be particularly good recipient of the grant;
- Their professional assessment as to why they believe you would make good use of the funding.

The letter should be on their organisation's letterhead.

Please ask them to avoid providing confidential information that you as applicant would not be happy for the panel to read.

The letter of recommendation must include the name, email and telephone number of the person writing it.  We will not use their contact information for anything other than for the consideration of this grant application.
