The Counselling Foundation of Canada is a private family foundation based in Toronto, ON (the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Petun, Haundenosaunee, Anishinaabe and Mississauga Anishinaabe of New Credit) that champions life-long learning and career development for people in Canada. As a grantmaking foundation, we support initiatives in Canada from coast to coast to coast that help young people with their career development.

The Counselling Foundation of Canada is recruiting members to join our national, volunteer, governance Board of Directors. In our board recruitment process, we conduct an open call for applicants while intentionally seeking out candidates from targeted philanthropic and relevant industry circles. This approach ensures that our outreach is focused on networks and communities aligned with our mission, while respecting the diversity within the communities served in our mission. While open to all, our recruitment efforts prioritize reaching those who can actively support The Counselling Foundation of Canada's goals. This strategy helps us build a diverse board to drive our philanthropic vision.

Our Board Members bring a variety of skills, experiences, knowledge and understanding of diverse contexts and constituents to help guide our work. The Counselling Foundation of Canada is committed to Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) in all of our governance policies, practices and processes.

We are looking for individuals passionate about building a more prosperous, equitable and inclusive society in the context of our mission. For this recruitment cycle, the ideal candidate(s) will:

  • Reside and work in one of the geographic areas loosely defined as: The Prairies; Western Canada; or The Canadian North
  • Have experience working within philanthropy, a charitable organization or a not-for-profit organization
  • Have financial management experience (CA designation)
  • Have investment management experience

We understand that not every candidate will meet all these criteria so we encourage all those interested to apply. If you would like to share an aspect of yourself that relates to our commitment to JEDI, please include this in your letter for the Governance and Nominations Committee to consider in their review of your Expression of Interest.

To apply, upload a current CV and letter of interest in one file to the attention of the Governance and Nominations Committee, via this form by December 1, 2025, indicating your interest in a Board role and what you hope to bring to the work of the Foundation.
