INTRODUCTIONS

Purpose: Learn more about one another

Tutor provides pull-out tier 2 support through targeted small group (4 or fewer students) instruction during an intervention period. SCHOOL AND CLASSROOM CULTURE

Purpose: Learn about school/classroom culture, policies, and practices

Ask: Does the school have a school-wide positive behavior or classroom management program or focus? (e.g. PBIS, TEACH etc.) If so, what is that program?

Ask: What are the most important rules and procedures for your class that I can help reinforce?

Ask: What are some of the positive behavior reinforcement strategies that I can help reinforce?

Ask: Do you have any guidance you’d like to share regarding how to build positive relationships and rapport with students?

Ask: Do you have any guidance related to appropriate ways of preventing and/or responding to behavior concerns? (e.g. de-escalation strategies etc.)

Ask: What other procedures or routines do you use that would it be good for me to know about? (e.g. where to turn in papers, how to line up, procedures for borrowing supplies, etc.)

SCHOOL AND CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION

Purpose: Learn about school/classroom academic goals, clarify roles and responsibilities, meeting cadence/times and high-leverage instructional practices.

Ask: What is the curriculum you use for those subject areas?

Ask: Does the school have school wide academic goals? If so, what are they?

Ask: Do you have any classroom-specific academic goals? If so, what are they?

Ask: What are some ways I can reinforce school-wide or classroom academic goals with my small group students?

Ask: Do you have any high leverage instructional strategies you’d like me to learn and implement? (e.g. scaffolding strategies, engagement strategies etc.) If so, what are they?

For Partner Teacher Models

Ask: Which middle to low performing students would you like me to start out prioritizing during whole-group core/Tier 1 instruction?

Ask: Will you be utilizing flexible groups (by ability, centers etc.) as part of your core/Tier 1 instruction? If so, which flexible group (low, medium or high) would you like me to work with?

For Coordinator Models

Say: I'd like to be able to review your whole-class lessons and my small-group lessons ahead of time so I can be prepared to instruct students.

Ask: What’s the best way for me to get those plans so that I can review them? Will the lesson plans include a formative assessment? If not say: I will either save some of the practice problems as a formative assessment, come up with some objective-aligned questions on my own, or use a general formative assessment that was part of my training to make a mastery call.

Ask: When will our standing check-in take place (e.g. every week on Tuesday at 8am etc.)?

Ask: If a PLC or grade level meeting takes place during my shift, would you like me to attend?

Ask: If I have questions or concerns – besides bringing them to our standing mCheck-in – what’s the best way to bring those to your attention for your thought partnership and support?
