Applying for the Psychological Therapies grant round

Welcome

We are a charity passionate about building a world where no child or young person becomes involved in violence. Our small part in this is to find what works and build a movement to put this knowledge into practice. Everything we do is intended to help us fulfil this mission. We're using our funding to build a consensus – from the grass-roots to the government – on what works best to support young people. We believe that every child deserves the very best research on what works and for everyone to get behind what will make the biggest difference.

Reducing violence is complicated. To make sure that children and young people keep safe, we have to make sure their needs are met. To date, we have run grant rounds which have each focused on a different need or theme.

The focus for this grant round is Psychological Therapies – talking therapies delivered by trained therapists, that aim to treat psychological and emotional problems in children and young people at risk of becoming involved in crime and violence or those already involved in the youth justice system.

We want to build knowledge about various therapeutic models, with an emphasis on understanding the therapeutic relationships that underpin them. The priority is to ensure that applications meet the specified criteria outlined in this guidance, rather than aligning with any particular therapeutic models. The intervention must include psychological therapy as a core component being received by all participants and must be delivered or supervised by a clinically qualified practitioner.

Please ensure you read through our application guidance before starting your application.  We have very clear eligibility criteria for this round, so please apply only if you have a proposal that fits with this. Thank you for everything you do for young people.

Completing the Form

We're delighted that you are planning to apply for funding from the Youth Endowment Fund. To apply, you will need to complete this form.

Please tell us as honestly as you can about what you propose to do. We are looking for your proposal to show us:

  • If successfully delivered, it would deliver on one of the primary outcomes that we're interested in. Our main focus is supporting projects that reduce offending outcomes for children and young people. However, we also have a few other primary outcomes that we are potentially interested in evaluating (see guidance)
  • You can reach children we are most interested in working with in this grant round (see guidance)
  • You're likely to be able to reach these young people and successfully deliver what you propose (not just write well about it)
  • We can work together with an independent research organisation to rigorously evaluate your project to see if it works (not just place unnecessary burden on you producing reports you don’t believe in)

If this is you, please do apply.

The form is broken into 2 parts;  Yes / No eligibility questions to see if you are suitable to apply for the funding and then the main application which will ask for detailed responses in regard to your request for funds.

Before applying, you may want to review the list of questions here to see what information you need. We know that there are quite a few questions, but we believe that they are all related to things that you would need to consider to make sure this funding is right for you.

You can save your form at any time and return to it later.

Please do not use the Back or Forward button of your browser as this will result in any answer previously entered being lost. Use the in page navigation buttons.

Once we have received all the proposals we will read and assess every single one. If we do not fund your proposal, it does not mean that we think you are doing a bad job. We are trying to find the very best proposals where we can conduct the very best evaluations to build a consensus on what works. Please refer to the guidance document for more information about when you can expect to hear from us and what the next steps will be.

We need the information in this form in order to consider your application for funding. Our applicant privacy notice has more information about how we use your personal data.

This form will close for submissions at 5pm, 24th May 2024.

Thank you for all you do to keep young people safe.

Yours,

Jon Yates

Executive Director, YEF
