2024-2025 Kidznotes Registration 

Kidznotes Eligibility

Thank you for your interest in Kidznotes! Please read the following information and eligibility requirements before moving on to the next page. Once you complete this registration, you will receive confirmation from a Kidznotes staff member that your student is enrolled for the 2024-2025 school year.

This registration is for grades 3-12 and Fayetteville St. Mozarts students ONLY. Stay tuned for more information about registration for the Mozarts Programs for grades 1-2 at Eastway Elementary and Spring Valley Elementary. If you are interested in receiving more information about the Mozarts program for grades 1-2, please complete the interest form HERE.

All accepted students receive:
  • A full scholarship to attend Kidznotes.
  • Instruments to use while enrolled in Kidznotes.
  • Access to after-school care with snack, recess, and homework help from 2:30-4:30 PM.
  • Busing* for Durham Public Schools students from their school to the Kidznotes Nucleo at Fayetteville St. Elementary School. *Based on availability

Registration Deadline: August 1, 2024

Fees: It is free to apply to Kidznotes. If your student is accepted, there is a $20 fee for returning students and a $50 fee for new students to participate for the year, charged at a later date. Returning and new students will be charged $50 for the 2025-2026 school year.

Program Dates: September 16, 2024 - May 15, 2025 

Kidznotes Nucleo Location (grades 3-12): The Kidznotes Nucleo is located at Fayetteville St. Elementary School (2905 Fayetteville St., Durham, NC 27707)

Student Eligibility: Students in grades 3-12 may apply. 

Program Schedule: After-school care available Monday-Thursday 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM; music classes Monday-Thursday from 4:30-6:20 PM*
*Schedule varies by student placement level.

Student Level Assignments: 
  • Current Kidznotes students will be assigned their level for the 2024-2025 school year by May 16, 2024. You will be notified via email.
  • All new students in grades 3-5 with no experience on an instrument will be placed in Level 1.
  • New students in grades 6-12 must complete an assessment audition.
    • Level 1 Students (grades 3-5): Monday-Thursday 4:30-6:20 PM
    • Level 2 Students (grades 4-6): Monday-Thursday 4:30-6:20 PM
    • Level 3 Students (grades 6-9): Tuesday-Thursday 4:30-6:20 PM
    • Level 4 Students (grades 9-12): Tuesday & Thursday from 5:00 PM - 6:50 PM, with the option to attend electives on Wednesday 5:30-6:20 PM
Student Assessment Auditions: 
Current Kidznotes students will be assessed during class and their level assignment will be given before the last day of Kidznotes on May 9th.

Students in grades 6-12 who have not participated in Kidznotes before must have at least one year of experience on their instrument and must complete an assessment audition IN PERSON or SUBMIT A VIDEO in order to be placed in the appropriate level. Photography Release
Students participating in the Kidznotes Program will be actively photographed and videoed during program related activities. Kidznotes uses these photos and videos for social media content, grant reports, advertising, publicity purposes, etc.  


Student Electives

Students will have the opportunity to participate in electives. Please rank which electives your students would like to participate in order of preference. Class sizes are limited and students will be assigned to their preferences as closely as possible.

Elective assignments will be given to each student by August 16, 2024.

**Please note: High school students will attend classes on Tuesdays & Thursdays with the option to attend Choir and Music Composition & Theory on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:20 PM.

Elective Descriptions:
  • Piano: Available to all student levels. Sections for new and returning piano students are available. Please note, piano lessons are instructed at the beginning levels. Students will learn the basic skills of playing the piano in a group setting while having time to practice independently.
  • Choir: Available to elementary students. Explore the joys of singing while learning fundamental vocal techniques. Students will explore diverse repertoire of songs ranging from traditional folk tunes to contemporary classics.
  • Small Ensemble: Available to all student levels. Students will form small ensembles based on their instruments and musical interests. From duos and trios to quartets and beyond, students will learn how to collaborate and lead independently under the guidance of a Kidznotes teaching artist. Students will have the freedom to choose and explore music that resonates with their interests.
  • Jazz Ensemble: Available to middle & high school students only. Students will delve into the world of classic and contemporary jazz music and technique while honing their skills as an ensemble and developing their own unique improvisational voices. All instrument types are invited to join.
